el-Mahvî

The effaced — that only He may remain.

From three epistles to a corpus

scroll

el-Mahvî is not a name but a state: to be effaced.
These three works were written in one night — from knowing to weeping, and from weeping to acquaintance with the Beloved ﷺ. The one who writes longs to stand aside; for «the finest epistle is written with a teardrop», and the work belongs to its Author.

Three Epistles

I

The Epistle of Effacement

«Knowledge is a door, not a veil»

The end of knowledge is not pride; it is awe, a prostration, a single tear.

II

The Supplication of the Teardrop

«When the tongue fails, the eye speaks»

A prayer in the night — where weeping arrives at love.

III

The Epistle of Acquaintance

«How did you know me, never having seen me?»

A letter to the Beloved ﷺ — an acquaintance from fourteen centuries away.

Three Epistles on the Path of the Heart

All three together — with a shared cover and contents, twenty-five pages in a single volume. Head, heart, and the meeting (liqā).

The Last Door

The ego's subtlest veil: the hidden portion that seeps into praise — and rescue from it, too, is from Him.

Crushing the Ego's Portion

«When praise returns, the claim dies»

The hidden idolatry and self-admiration that creep into praise, thanks, and understanding: «do not claim purity for yourselves» — when praise returns to God, the ego's portion is crushed and the claim dies.

Who Crushed the Serpent's Head

«Saved from himself only by his Lord»

Seeing the ego's disease, crushing it, and being saved are all a blessing: not «I crushed» but «God crushed» — purified even of seeing that one was purified. «Except those on whom my Lord has mercy.»

Being · Remembrance · the Beloved

The Supplication of Origination

«From the darkness of nonexistence to the light of existence»

A hymn of praise on our creation from nothing, and our shaping from a drop into a human being.

The Supplication of Remembrance

«The disease of heedlessness and the cure of praise»

To the Lord who remembers us when we forget: that blessing and power carry us to praise, not heedlessness.

Blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ

«The door of mercy and the secret of following»

Blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ: that love be a deed not a claim, and following a covenant in the heart.

Blessing · Mirror · Cause

The Epistle of the Answer

«The answer before the question»

The answer is already on its way before the prayer leaves the lips: a nearness beyond measure, the ordering of destiny, and the secret that «the whole affair belongs to God».

The Epistle of the Mirror

«The mirror and the blessing»

Regarding the secondary cause without blindness or arrogance: the mirror holds no light of its own, neither idolized nor denied — passing through everything to God, every praise returning to Him.

Shake Toward Yourself

«The fruit from God, the shaking from the servant»

From the palm-trunk shaken by Mary: the servant acts, yet the movement is courtesy not cause — and at every fruit that falls, «this is from the bounty of my Lord».

Trust · Reliance · Praise

The Epistle of Trust

«Whoever betrays the door is not trusted with the house»

A man is revealed not by his titles, but by what he does at the door — when the trust is in his hands.

The Epistle of Trust and Reliance

«Bearing the blessing, resting in God»

The weight of the blessing and the rest of «God suffices us»: when God is the Disposer, the servant does not abandon action but hands Him the burden — a plea for pardon, forgiveness, and mercy.

The Supplication of Praise

«After the blessing was unveiled»

Seeing the hand behind the causes: protection in withholding, mercy in unveiling, wisdom in the boundary — and gratitude, the door to the increase of blessing.
